SC2001 Minority Serving Institutions Participation Grant

Program Overview
The purpose of this project is to increase the participation of minorities in the SC conferences by providing support to help faculty and/or IT professionals from Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) - Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribal Colleges, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to attend the conference. This project takes place in the context of EOT-PACI (www.eot.org) outreach to MSI's under the NSF sponsored Advanced Networking with Minority Serving Institutions (AN-MSI, www.anmsi.org).

The intended impact of this project goes beyond just increasing the numbers of MSI participants in SC conferences to fostering collaborative relationships between faculty at MSIs and research scientists at major research centers and impacting the amount and quality of computational science education at MSIs.

Grant Application Process
Please contact Stephenie McLean (msi@sc2001.org) for a grant application form. To apply participants would need to complete the MSI Grant Application Form. All grant applicants who submit their applications by September 7 will be notified of the status of their application by email on September 17, 2001.

It is our intention in providing these grants to improve our ability to reach groups that have traditionally not had access to high performance computing. We strongly encourage applicants who have not previously attended SC. Please note that applicants must be either a US citizen or permanent resident in order to qualify for these grants.

Additional Information
Financing Participants: Up to 30 grants will be available for those who wish to attend SC2001 in Denver, Colorado, November 10-16, 2001. These grants will cover lodging, event registration fee and per-diem for meals up to a maximum of $1800. Participants would be reimbursed for lodging, travel and per diem. Registration fee will be handled through the budget of the appropriate committee.

Expense Reimbursement: MSI participants receiving grants should use the expense reimbursement form and follow the expense reimbursement guidelines when submitting expenses for reimbursement.

Conference Registration Procedures: Selected participants will be provided a URL to register via the web, where they will select Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) as their registration category. Selection of the MSI category will permit them to register for the Technical Program without having to submit payment information.
